Salary to hourly calculator: your salary, by the hour
A salary to hourly calculator for India. Monthly pay, CTC or LPA to an hourly rate, before and after tax, PF and professional tax, for five-day, six-day and alternate-Saturday weeks. Then what an hour comes to once holidays, leave, late evenings and the commute are counted. Working abroad? It does the Gulf, the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Germany too.

What this leaves out
The tax is for one person whose salary is their only income, with the standard allowances and the settings you choose. It doesn't know about other income, investments, children, pension contributions above the minimum or a tax code that isn't the usual one, and it doesn't replace a payslip. The notes under the breakdown say what each country's figure assumes.
A year here is 52 weeks, which is how salary maths usually counts it: a 40-hour week makes 2,080 hours. Holidays that fall on a weekly off day don't cost you a working day, so take those out of the holiday count. A salary's hourly rate isn't a freelance rate, which has to pay for leave, holidays and the hours nobody bills. To see what a raise is really worth, there's the salary hike calculator.
How to convert a salary to an hourly rate
Turn the salary into a yearly figure, then divide by the hours you're paid for in a year. Those hours are hours a day, times days a week, times 52 weeks. A 40-hour week makes 2,080 hours.
So ₹50,000 a month is ₹6,00,000 a year, and over 2,080 hours that's ₹288 an hour. An offer of 12 LPA is ₹12,00,000 a year, or ₹577 an hour on the same week.
Your working week changes the answer
India doesn't have one working week. Many offices work five days, banks and plenty of other employers give alternate Saturdays off, and shops, factories and a lot of smaller firms work six. The same ₹50,000 a month is ₹288 an hour over five 8-hour days, ₹262 with alternate Saturdays, and ₹240 over six.
The labour codes, in force since 21 November 2025, set normal working hours at 48 a week, and for the workers they cover, overtime is paid at no less than twice the ordinary rate. Six 8-hour days is that limit exactly.
Hours you're paid for, and hours you work
The rate on paper counts every paid hour, including holidays and leave. That's the right number for comparing offers, and the wrong one for knowing what an hour at work earns. Take out 10 holidays and 12 days of leave and a five-day year has 238 working days, not 260. At ₹50,000 a month, an hour actually at work earns ₹315.
Then add what the contract doesn't count. If your 8-hour days are really 9.5, that ₹315 falls to ₹265. Add a 90-minute commute, there and back, and it's ₹229: less than the rate on paper, for the same salary.
CTC, gross or in-hand
CTC, cost to company, is everything your employer spends on you, including its own PF contribution and the gratuity it sets aside. Gross is the salary before tax and your PF. In-hand is what reaches your account. Tell the calculator which one you've typed and it takes the rest from there: from a CTC it removes the employer's PF and gratuity first, then works out the tax.
The two ends can be far apart. 12 LPA as CTC is about ₹11.35 lakh of gross salary, and with no income tax under the new regime, about ₹91,600 a month in hand once your PF is taken.
Tax and take-home in India, 2026-27
This is the first year under the Income-tax Act, 2025, and the Finance Act 2026 left the rates alone. Under the new regime, the default, income up to ₹12 lakh pays no tax after the rebate, and salaried people get a ₹75,000 standard deduction, so a salary up to ₹12.75 lakh pays nothing. Above that the slabs run from 15% to 30%, plus 4% cess. The old regime keeps its deductions, such as 80C, 80D, HRA and home-loan interest, with slabs from 5% to 30%.
The calculator also takes your own PF: 12% of basic, on ₹25,000 a month at most, since the wage ceiling rose from ₹15,000 on 17 September 2026. That's ₹3,000 a month, up from ₹1,800. Professional tax depends on your state, up to ₹2,500 a year. Switch the regime in the tax settings and both figures update, so you can see which one leaves you more.
Other countries
Pick a country and the currency, the usual working week, the holidays and the tax change with it. The UAE and Saudi Arabia have no income tax on salaries, so only nationals' pension or GOSI contributions come off. The US includes federal tax, Social Security, Medicare and a state rate you choose. The UK includes income tax, with Scotland's bands, and National Insurance. Canada works out federal and Ontario tax, CPP and EI. Australia has income tax, the low income offset and the Medicare levy, and Singapore CPF and income tax. Germany uses the finance ministry's own wage-tax method, with the solidarity surcharge and all four social contributions.
Every rate comes from that country's tax authority for the current tax year, and was checked against its official calculator or published tables. The notes under the breakdown say what each figure assumes.
A day's pay: 26 days or 30
Indian payroll doesn't agree on how many days are in a month. Gratuity treats a month's wages as 26 working days: fifteen days' wages is the monthly figure divided by 26, times 15. Many employers work out a day's pay for loss-of-pay deductions over 30 days, or over the calendar days in that month.
So ₹50,000 a month is ₹1,923 a day over 26 days and ₹1,667 over 30. The calculator shows both. Your company's policy says which one it uses.
Questions people actually ask
answered properly,
not padded out
How do I convert my monthly salary to an hourly rate?
Multiply it by 12 for the year, then divide by the hours you're paid for in a year: hours a day, times days a week, times 52. For ₹50,000 a month on a five-day, 8-hour week, that's ₹6,00,000 divided by 2,080, or ₹288 an hour. On a six-day week it's ₹240.
What is 12 LPA per hour?
12 LPA is ₹12,00,000 a year. Over a five-day, 8-hour week, which is 2,080 hours a year, that's ₹577 an hour. With alternate Saturdays it's ₹524, and over a six-day week ₹481. Those are rates on paper, with holidays and leave counted as paid hours.
How many working hours are there in a year in India?
It depends on the week. Five 8-hour days make 2,080 hours a year, alternate Saturdays make 2,288, and six 8-hour days make 2,496. The labour codes set normal working hours at 48 a week, so 2,496 is as many as a normal week allows. Take out holidays and leave and the hours you actually work are fewer.
Should I use CTC or in-hand salary?
Use CTC to see what your time costs your employer, or to compare offers on the same basis. Use your monthly in-hand to see what an hour actually pays you. CTC includes the employer's PF contribution, gratuity and any variable pay, so its hourly rate is always the higher of the two.
How is one day's salary calculated in India?
There isn't one rule. Gratuity counts a month as 26 working days, so a day is the monthly figure divided by 26. Many employers divide by 30, or by the calendar days in that month, when they deduct a day's pay for unpaid leave. ₹50,000 a month is ₹1,923 a day over 26 days and ₹1,667 over 30.
Is overtime paid at double the rate in India?
For workers covered by the labour codes, overtime beyond normal working hours is paid at no less than twice the ordinary rate. Many salaried and managerial roles aren't paid overtime at all, so the extra hours lower what each hour earns. That's what the hours-you-really-work field shows.
Can I use this to set a freelance hourly rate?
Not directly. A salary's hourly rate comes with paid leave and holidays, an employer's PF and gratuity, and someone else paying for the hours you can't bill. A freelancer pays for all of that out of their rate, so a freelance rate that matches a salary has to be noticeably higher than the salary's hourly figure.
What is 12 LPA in hand per month?
About ₹91,600 a month, if 12 LPA is your CTC and you're on the new regime. The employer's PF and gratuity come out of the CTC first, leaving about ₹11.35 lakh of salary, which pays no income tax under the ₹12 lakh rebate. Your own PF of ₹3,000 a month is the only deduction, before any professional tax. That's about ₹528 an hour on a five-day, 8-hour week. Under the old regime with ₹1.5 lakh of deductions it's about ₹83,000 a month.
Does the calculator include income tax?
Yes. For India it works out the new or old regime for tax year 2026-27, with the rebate, surcharge and 4% cess, plus your PF and your state's professional tax. For the other eight countries it uses each one's own income tax and the employee's social contributions. It assumes your salary is your only income and uses the standard allowances, so it estimates a payslip rather than replacing one.
How much PF is deducted from my salary?
12% of your basic pay, and your employer adds the same. Since 17 September 2026 the wage ceiling is ₹25,000 a month, so if your employer caps contributions, as is the default, the most you pay is ₹3,000 a month. Some employers and employees agree to contribute on the full basic instead; the tax settings have that option.
Is my salary stored or sent anywhere?
No. Every calculation runs in your browser and nothing is sent or saved. The share buttons send only a link to the empty calculator, because an hourly rate and your hours together give away your salary.
