The short version
- There are no ads here, and I don’t sell or rent anyone’s data.
- Microsoft Clarity records how pages are used, so I can see what gets read and what gets skipped.
- If you ask for a download, your email address is kept so you can get the file, and so I can tell you when the next piece goes up.
- In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, nothing sets a cookie until you say yes. Anyone, anywhere, can turn Clarity’s cookies off.
Who runs this site
Me, Sahil Deep, in Surat, India. For anything on this page, including asking what I hold about you or asking me to delete it, email hey@itssahil.life.
How pages are used: Microsoft Clarity
Clarity is Microsoft’s tool for seeing how people use a website. On this site it records clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, the pages visited, and recordings of how each page was used. It also notes the kind of device and browser, and roughly where in the world the visit came from. I use it to find out which parts of a post people read, and where a page loses them.
It doesn’t record what you type: Clarity masks the text in form fields, including the email box on the download forms, so it never appears in a recording.
Microsoft keeps the recordings for 30 days and the click and heatmap data for 13 months, then deletes them. It handles the data under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Clarity runs on the public pages only, never on the site’s admin.
Cookies
The only cookies on this site are Clarity’s. If you’re in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, the site asks before any are set, and until you say yes, Clarity runs without them. Everywhere else, Clarity sets them by default. Wherever you are, you can say no, and the choice holds on every visit. Without cookies, Clarity still records each page, but can’t join one page to the next, or tell that you’ve been before.
_clckset by this siteKeeps the ID Clarity gives your browser, so later visits count as the same visitor._clskset by this siteJoins the pages of one visit into a single recording.CLIDset by MicrosoftRecords when Clarity first saw your browser, on any site that uses it.MUIDset by MicrosoftIdentifies browsers across Microsoft's sites. Microsoft uses it for advertising, analytics and running its services.ANONCHK, MR, SMset by MicrosoftSmall flags that manage MUID. Microsoft says Clarity doesn't use its advertising ID, so ANONCHK is always 0.
A few things are kept in your browser that aren’t cookies and never leave it: whether you chose the light or dark theme, list or grid on the Marketing page, your answer about cookies, and, for one browsing session, whether the site needs to ask you about them.
If you ask for a download
The download forms ask for an email address. When you send one, the site keeps the address, which download it was for, when you first asked, and how many times. It’s stored in the site’s database, which is hosted by Supabase, and it also appears in the server’s logs when you submit it.
I use it to get you the file and, now and then, to let you know when the next piece with real numbers in it goes up. Nothing else, and it’s never rented or shared. Email me and I’ll take you off and delete the address.
What the server sees
The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web server, it sees the IP address and browser details of each request, which it needs to send the page back, and keeps them in its logs under Vercel’s privacy policy. The site uses the country Vercel works out from your connection for one thing, deciding whether to ask about cookies, and doesn’t store it.
The fonts are served from this site, so your browser doesn’t contact Google to fetch them. Apart from Clarity’s script, which comes from Microsoft, nothing from another site is loaded into these pages. Links to other sites are just links, and once you follow one, that site’s own policy applies.
On what basis
- Clarity, in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland: your consent, which you can take back at any time with the button above.
- Clarity, everywhere else: my interest in knowing how the site is used, which you can opt out of the same way.
- Your email address: you asked for the file. Ask me to delete it and I will.
- Server logs: running the site and keeping it safe.
Your rights
You can ask what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Email hey@itssahil.life and I’ll answer within a month. If you’re in the EEA or the UK and you’re not happy with how I’ve handled it, you can complain to your country’s data protection authority.
If this changes
If the site starts collecting anything new, or stops, this page will say so, and the date at the top will change.
